need help what is the best thing to do when my dog bit a women in are house and she is asking me to pay her 5 thousand dollars but this amount is really big for the bite she has or should we just go to the court?

У нее есть police report ?
Если да то $5000 за не так уж и много: ибо Вам как владельцу собаки прийдется ей оплатить дорогое лечение ( если не она то lawyers ее insurance company ЗАСТАВЯТ Вас оплатить ). Ну и там "моральный ущерб" как судья решит, если она собаку не дразнила а она сама без повода набросилась то судья может 10к и больше заставить заплатить ПОМИМО медицинских расходов.
Собака Ваша - по американским законам Вы полностью за нее отвечаете.

While I don't have too much experience in this field, I think that "Alex" is on the right tract. You are responsible for your pet's actions.

Have you tried calling your homeowner's insurance carrier? Your policy may require that your homeowner's insurance indemnify and defend you of any claim. Before paying out any money, contact them to see if there is a provision in the insurance contract that would protect you from any monetary damanges. If you have the contract in hand, consider contacting an experienced litigation/contract attorney to review it.
