Does anybody knows I am working as a cashier and the end of my shift I need to count money what does it mean to be short or over on cash register? Or it does not metter what I have I have?

I used to work as a cashier when I just moved in US, and at the end of the day, or twice a day, depends on management, you count your cash comparing to merchandise scanned. So if you scanned for $100 but you have cash for $99.90, you short for 0.10 c so that means customer gave you 0.10 c less than merchandise price or you gave a wrong change. If you have $100.10 in cash then customer overpaid for merchandise or you gave a wrong change.

OR if cash register is short then maybe you took money from cash register. Which is different story... In this case they won't ask you a question, they call police right away.

they will not call police if you're suddenly short $0.10! But, if you are constantly short $20-50-100, they will watch you closely, and eventually call the police if they suspect you're stealing

So my understanding most reason I count money the end of my shift they want to make sre if I am not stealing Right??

It means that whatever you give you either have too much money compare to total sales or you missing some money

short - значит нехватает (недостача)
over - значит избыток (денег больше, чем проданного товара)
