Definitely Android if you don't need Windows Mobile. Although HTC Hero is still Cupcake 1.5. it has best GUI out of them all. Samsung I heard is not as pretty, but it is prolly based on Donut 1.6 OS. I have My Touch from T-Mobile and already hacked. There is a whole android world out there and if you like digging in your phone or want alternative to a Iphone posers then you should get Hero or Moment. Don't know much about Pre.

BTW, I switch between Hero and Donut build ROMs all the time. If you decide to go with Hero, I can give you few help points.

Well, it has only rotating virtual keyboard with HTC-IME options... prediction, qwerty, T9, blah-blah-blah. You can also change it to dual language by doing the trick after you root the phone. It has a nice big sms widget on one of your 7 screen panels. It is an eye candy. If you are not into graphic prettiness than you may want to consider another android phone with Donut 1.6, faster. HTC Hero has 286 mgb of RAM compare to my 198, I am not sure about Sprint Hero.
