Open-Deck & Heavy-Haul Trucking
KAP Express is looking for an experienced, organized Fleet Operations Coordinator to work alongside our main dispatcher and keep daily operations running smoothly. The primary focus is driver management, scheduling, planning, and load coordination.
Our dispatch team books freight, and our main dispatcher determines truck and load assignments. Once a load is assigned, this person takes ownership of coordinating its execution from pickup through delivery.
Responsibilities:
-Schedule and confirm pickup and delivery appointments.
-Communicate load instructions, appointment times, and requirements to drivers.
-Monitor driver locations, available hours, shipment progress, and estimated arrival times.
-Plan ahead for upcoming pickups and deliveries, identifying scheduling conflicts early.
-Coordinate equipment readiness and confirm required permits and escorts with the responsible team members.
-Resolve routine operational issues and promptly escalate problems affecting safety, service, or costs.
-Keep brokers and customers informed about shipment status and delays.
-Collect delivery paperwork and document detention, layovers, and other accessorial requests.
-Maintain an accurate dispatch board and clear handoffs between drivers and dispatchers.
-Support the main dispatcher with next-day planning and driver availability.
Qualifications
-Previous trucking dispatch, fleet coordination, or driver management experience.
-Open-deck experience preferred, including flatbed, step deck, RGN, and oversize freight.
-Working knowledge of driver hours-of-service requirements.
-Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
-Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow through, and handle routine issues independently.
-Experience managing load execution and drivers; load-booking experience alone is not sufficient.
